Top Five Reasons

State of Washington Phenol Free Law

The State of Washington is implementing a new law that eliminates all Phenols from Thermal Paper.  Most notably, this includes BPS and BPA, but also the lesser-known Phenols as well.

This law will go into effect on January 1, 2026.

What does this mean?

  1.  Any paper manufactured after January 1, 2026, that is shipping to the State of Washington will need to be fully phenol-free.
  2. The State of Washington has set up a program to assist with the costs incurred during this transition.    Click Here for Link
  3. There is a path to exempt status, but based on the rules, Thermal Paper will not qualify.  Click this Link:  SPWA_Exemption_Process_2404055
  4. Here is the link for the actual law:  Click Here
  5. Currently, Phenol Free paper does cost more to manufacture.  We are monitoring the supply chain and will be passing along savings as they occur.
